We have been busy updating the features on the Kaskazi Marlin. The following pictures will provide the evidence. The captions will explain:-
The cockpit hatch volume has been extended, and the large flat surface provides a perfect placement for a GPS/sonar mounting point, convenient within reach and still provide space for a rod holder - we suggest the Railblaza starport system - ahead of it, or the other way around and we can provide competitive prices and fit out for the Railblaza starport and some cherry picked accessories to suit our kayaks. Rod holders, GPS/sonar mounts and gadget mounts are the main ones. The paddle keep on the bow has been retained, but I am workng with a company to provide a protective film, cut to shape, to help prevent the scratching from sandy paddle blades to the foredeck. I am hoping to be in a position to supply these precut films very soon. Existing owners will be able to benefit from this as well as new owners.
The cockpit hatch is long enough to take a 9ft 4-piece rod, so it will suit the fly angler down to the ground. As a keen fly fisherman I was biased with the thought that went into it. The volume within the hatch is plenty to accommodate some food, drink and electronics too - or tackle. Notice too, the enlarged scupper venturis together with their tethered bungs. If you don't like the leashes, untie them and put a small dowel or cork on to prevent their loss. You can see the extent of the central flat area for mounting the accessories on.
Fitting a fish finder or sonar is always the first question people ask about, so we have done the hard work for our new owners. In the aft hatch there is a moulded battery box, made to fit the popular 7Ah - 12Ah battery used for powering sonar/GPS combination units. There is also some high density foam to pad the box to make the battery fit snugly. You will also notice that there is a grommet routing in the port side of the bulkhead, to make it easy to route the battery and transducer cable through to the front hatch. Just use a pull through to bring the cables through. The transducer is ideally placed just astern the seat, where it will remain in contact with the water and provide a good signal. Access into the aft hatch is good and placing the battery and TX here will have virtually no impact on the stowage capability (which is VAST)for camping trips. To gve an idea, a C-tug will go in with the wheels still on!
To make it easy to get to the flat area of the cockpit where the sonar will be fitted an access hatch is fitted into the forward bulkhead and a grommet fitted to route the cables from the aft hatch through. Fitting a GPS/Sonar has never been more convenient or tidier. Notice that the hatch is captive too.
The custom cargo crate fits on the aft deck for carrying anchor gear or a coolbox.
