Paddling being discussed on Radio Hereford Tonight

Post by Jace »

I think it's pretty fair to say that the reporting from the general media when serious incidents occur in our sport is pretty shoddy, ill-informed and often misleading. Canoe & Kayak UK Magazine's Assistant Editor Seth Townley will be appearing on BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester's Drive Time show (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/bb ... _worcester) this evening, after 5.30pm, to try and redress the balance a little, give a better understanding of what we do and to let everybody know what a safe and fantastic sports canoeing & kayaking really are.

Good luck Seth, with bringing across a sense of comprehended risk we all hope to knowingly take.

Ah - that explains the e-mail I got from Worcester Canoe Club asking us not to comment on recent fatalities :(

Well done Seth - without for a moment belittling the seriousness of this weekend's tragedy, you put the accidents clearly in context, based on the true level of risk in our sport, and the utter seriousness with which safety is taken. Not an easy balance to achieve.
