I am able to change anyone's username on request, should whatever you originally chose now seem a bit embarrassing...

My user name came from an utterly crap joke on I think our club forum. Three of us had equally lame names (meant as I recall to sound like 70s porn stars for some odd reason).
Anyway the other two post here regularly only now one uses his own name and the other uses a nickname based on his real name. Cowards... :-)
Actually I cringe every time I meet paddlers who stare at me for a while and then tell me I look familiar and do I "go on" UKRGB at all? I'm actually usually too embarrassed to say the name out loud and generally sort of mumble it rather sheepishly. But I don't want it changed. God knows why :-)
In the real world none of my family or my wife know this name. I would probably die of shame....

I should have been clearer, if it's not on your signature line, then tell us your real names to....

Forgive my ignorance, but what the hell is Krikkitwars?

Mark, purely for amusement, it would be awesome to see Mr Bland's username changed as requested.

I am also considering a change to.. อวัยวะเพศชายขนาดใหญ่

Oh, yeah, cheers for that Chris... So I pasted your suggested name to translate google and brought up "Gay-today" website – just as the entire team gets back from lunch.

I'm happy to go by whatever name. I lost the few reamianing shreds of whatever ego I had, years ago...

Just to clarify, P.R Unicycles came about when the "cool" kids at my college used to call me P.R, probably because they assumed i found it patronizing, so i took it on myself to use the name to annoy them, now i like it. When my IT teacher asked us to create a Gmail account, i came up with P.R.Unicycles, because my very old hotmail account was "liddle-peter" which was highly embarrassing by college. it kind of stuck. i made unicycling films under that name, it got shortened down to P.R.Uni often, but i tend to use the full P.,R.Unicycles in forums. lots of people refer to me as Uni, there was a kid at college that used to call me pruni (proo-knee) which is probably why i stick to the full unicycles.

I've been called "flannel"!Stories i guess, though i was only 7 at the time.I've been called "Mark",because it is my name.I've been called "Broadbean" by the black guys i did karate with, because apparently, a certain part of my anatomy fascinated them!Lots of swear words to.I have answered to "Ardz".Teachers smuggly called "Hardingham" to summons me for various punishments, but again,it is my name. Most mates call me "Hardy",as there are a million "Marks" on this island.I never liked that particular abbreviation, but it does serve a purpose,to separate me from all the other guys with my forename.Simple.

I don't hide behind it.It is who i am.My dad was called it to,i am led to believe.

Read "Life the Universe and Everything" to gain a full understanding (and likely have an good giggle too), an abreviated version is thus: Krikkit is a planet hidden in a dust cloud, when a spaceship crashes they realise there is life outside their planet and declare it will "Have to go"... after an increadibly steep learning curve, they set out to annahailate the rest of the known universe with a fleet of robot warriors, the Krikkit Wars are the result. (they fail and are locked in stasis until the end of the rest of the universe.)

TL;DR - an obscure douglas adams reference, which every so often gives someone who recognises it a little geeky jolt of satisfaction...

Why is it an amnesty?
Oxford English Dictionary wrote:noun (plural amnesties)
  • an official pardon for people who have been convicted of political offences:
    an amnesty for political prisoners
  • an undertaking by the authorities to take no action against specified offences during a fixed period:
    a month-long weapons amnesty
verb (amnesties, amnestying, amnestied)
[with object]
  • grant an official pardon to:
the guerrillas would be amnestied and allowed to return to civilian life
I am quite sure that it has never been an offence to assume a nickname either here or in the free world (there are probably regimes where it is) so why do we need an amnesty?
What would normally be the penalty for using a nickname that is to be waived during the period of amnesty?
If there is no offence and no penalty, what motivation could there possibly be for me to give up my nickname, which I have adopted for security reasons?

Ha! I reject your amnesty, I'm going to continue to use my nickname regardless, and there is nothing anyone can do about it because no-one knows who I really am!

Jim, I'm fairly sure that plenty of people do know (at least if you're the Jim I think I've met), you'd better hope that all your associates are willing to go along with your nefarious plan to remain anonymous ;)

Reading through I note that everyone except Krikkit has a personally tailored username. If the amnesty is true, Josh should devise a new name that pertains to himself and doesn't free load off the back of the fine words of someone else, or he could just change his location to China and it would instantly, as if by magic, be accepted that there was never any intention to copy or imitate! :-)

My username came from a long convoluted story that my brother made up. But since it's made up, noone really needs to hear it.

Someone thought that "wezzy" was an insult to me because I was born in West Yorkshire, I took it a compliment.
I 1st used it a year or so later when I signed up on my 1st forum but changed it to "wezzzy" coz I was tired and pressed too many "z"s.

I still use it on forums coz I always have, I am not hiding behind it. If anyone wants to see the man behind the name I will always describe myself and set a time/date/place, I will give my real name to people I need to.

Interestingly, this is the only forum where I use my real name. Obviously, the paddling community is friendly and I don't feel the need to hide behind a nickname on here!

My username is lou, which is what all me friends call me. Real name is Louise Casson. Not very inventive but I don't need it to be.

I don't want to count the number of boards I'm a member on - some are normal and family-friendly, and some are very much not suitable for polite company. I'm active on a few astronomy forums, a few mountainbike forums and a few kayak forums on a regular (read 3 times a week) basis. Some I'm not worried about using my real name - mostly for those that I'm likely to meet people in real life such as this forum. I use an obscure kayak stunt move as another username, and for the unsavoury I have another pseudonym for that kind of stuff. I've spent too long on the internet and I can see my fingerprints a long way into the past - my first net postings were back in 1995..
The college computer soc username was my first email account and I still have it now (~pio) it's one of my middle names so it's not so bad.

(in case anyone wasn't sure, my username here is my firstname+surname)

I'm Pyro because I (occasionally) fire breathe, and it's the way numerous people, in the biking, Adventure Racing and, to a lesser extent, kayaking worlds know me.

There have been a number of minor campaigns in the Leeds Uni club to prevent people calling me it and to make them use my real name, which is Carrick. I'm not that fussed either way, but Pyro is a shorter login to type, and I'm lazy like that. :)
