South Cerney Outdoor Ed Centre to close

Post by twopigs »

Gloucestershire County Council do not want to continue providing Outdoor Education Services and are considering the future of the SCOEC site. GCC have already announced that all staff at SCOEC will be made redundant by 1 Spetember 2011. We believe that SCOEC provides an unrivalled facility for all young people. We request that the council keeps the site and supports the transfer of SCOEC to a trust or partnership to continue providing outdoor education at Lake 12.

Please sign our ePetition on the Glos CC website as soon as you can and pass on to friends and family. You will need to register but it’s not too difficult.
here is the link to take you straight to petition register screen

The next GCC meeting at which this will be discussed is Wednesday Feb 16 so please do what you can before Wednesday morning.

Done, and thanks for bringing this to my attention Paul. I'll try to get all the staff at my school to sign as well.

Paul
You were a great help to me about 2 years ago when I wanted information on Wye river levels for a DoE expedition and I am delighed to be able to reciprocate by signing the petition.
Hope you succeed.
Kind regards
Andy

The 3 Gwent Outdoor Centres are also under-threat: http://www.gwentoutdoorcentres.org.uk/

& Ardroy OEC also has a petition against closure: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/saveardroy/

I tried to sign, but couldn't get past the 'register' procedure for the site. Anyone else having problems?

1531 signatures on the e-Petition so far - with at least another 3000 in writing.

5000 signatures will secure a full debate in Council in May - so if you've not signed yet please do so.

Of the 140 plus "lakes" - okay water filled ex-gravel workings - only two or three have any form of public access. As Adrian says there is Lake 32 (not 52 IIRC) run by Pete Pemdlebury - his outfit is called Waterlands, there is Lake 12 - Gloucestershire County Council Outdoor Education Centre - home of Thameswey Canoe Club https://sites.google.com/site/thameswey ... kayakclub/ - but currently under threat as GCC are withdrawing from direct provision of outdoor education and are considering what to do with the Lake - seeing another provider of outdoor education is an option, but what that will mean for Thameswey CC nobody will know, and the lake which Bowmore Sailing Club operate on - I think you can join Bowmore Sailing Club for about £120 a year.

Scandalous really - the Government want us to engage in healthy activity to reduce the burden on the NHS and then fails to make sure we can!

PS It's not too late to sign the e-Petition (please do) - although it is a multi-step process - register to say you want a vote, get your confirming email back, activate and then vote! GCC don't want to make it easy! And while you can vote as often as you like, only one vote per email address!
