Lobby for the Loop Loos

Post by SWPaddler » Wed Jan 26, 2011 11:48 am

There is a sign at New Bridge saying that Teignbridge District Council may be closing the toilets at New Bridge in September 2011 and possibly earlier. Let's try and make the Council keep the toilets open.

Please can everyone who uses the New Bridge car park write a letter to the council saying please do not close the loos. The name that the Council uses for the toilets is Buckland in the Moor: New Bridge

The person to lobby is:
Mr Steve Kew
Service Lead for Cleansing and Market Services
Teignbridge District Council
Ford House
Brunel Road
Newton Abbot
TQ12 4XX

Many thanks

SWP

Is there an eamail address for this guy too ?

I appriciate in these difficult times that funding public toilets and the staff to maintain and clean them in remote locations is diffcult. Maybe the replacemet with an automated self cleaning frestanding loo that was designed to fit into the enviroment would be an answer.

At least it would be avlaliable 24 hours a day and I would not mind paying a resonable amount for using the facility which could off set some of the operational costs.

There simply has to be one avaliable at this very busy site.

The email address is

steve.kew at teignbridge.gov.uk

I've sent a letter off and Andy Davey is doing one from the BCU. Let's see if we can get them to keep the loos open.

His address will actually end in devon.gov.uk not teignbridge... I work for the teignbridge I will contact him myself and ask why this is happening and explain why it shouldn't be closed.

Get used to it you are going to see lots of public toilets closing. Councils don't have a pot to p1ss in in the current environment.

A more attractive proposal might be for them to gift them to the BCU as a social enterprise ... ?

Right, you've done your drysuit up, boat waiting at the water's edge, you'd better have a pee before setting off. If the public convenience is not free, who is going to go to the car and get some change out and who is going to pee in the hedge?

Sounds like it needs a Dart "LoopyLooFest" as a fundraiser...
A bunch of paddlers all showing support and raising a token few quid would demonstrate the desire to keep them really well.
Would be seen by the locals as something positive the paddling community had done for the area too. I can't believe the odd angler/walker doesn't pop in and use them from time to time too.

I wrote an email to Steve Kew about this.....he says the decision is for Dartmoor National Park, so the lobby focus needs to change.

yes it is a problem if you are female getting on in years and you want to paddle the loop! I know female paddlers are in the minority.
