Yeah now his family has been informed I can say it was Ian Walsh if you didn't know him he has spent the last 25years paddling all over the world. I ended up in a pour over and swam Ian was last seen upside down and attempting to roll, it was in full spate and erm massive! So so sorry! there were only two of us paddling.

wow sad news
I did my first ever river trip with Ian on the mersey many moons agoI also worked with him later in life . Ian for me was one of the most underated paddlers ever. I remember watching a slide show of his around the mid 90s at affinity watersports in Manchester. Ian would tell us of his trips to nepal inspring all he met . (He even gets a mention in slimes discritpion of the marsangdhi)
A quiet understated man who will be missed by all
my thoughts are with all of those who had the pleasure of paddling and knowing him

Shocked and saddened to read this. Condolences to friends and family and anyone who knew Ian.
We learnt to paddle at around the same time in the 1980's and enjoyed pushing our limits in the Lake District and North Wales. I made my first trip on the Ogwen, the Glen and many other rivers with him. Lost touch in the 90's, by when he was into much bigger stuff in far flung places.
RIP mate - you were an inspiration to me and many, many others.

Can't believe Ian was 57, very quiet understated man, happy to disappear on his own and paddle some unheard of river in Nepal. Sad news.

RIP, my heard and mind are with everyone that has been affected. As hard as it will seem now, try and hold onto the memories, and the knowledge that he was doing something he really loved and it will get you though it one day at a time.

To get home after paddling all weekend and hear such tragic news really shocks. Rivers are such beautiful places that it is hard to understand the harshness they can deliver. Condolences to family and friends. :-(
