Moving to London, any advice?

Post by RVabdn »

I'm moving next month to somewhere around Shepherds Bush/Hammersmith, haven't quite got the location sorted yet.

I'm interested in joining a local club to meet some boaters so I'd be interested in hearing any recommendations. I've also got to find somewhere to keep my boats so a club with a boat store would be great, although that may be wishful thinking. I wouldn't be against paying for a secure space to store them if that was available.

Anyone from that sort of area got any advice?

Aye, come back up to El Deen! I think Will is living somewhere London/South Englandish though, guess you could hook up with him for some paddling.

Local clubs to Hammersmith:

CPCC (Chiswick Pier)
EDGE (Kew Bridge)
Putney Bridge Canoe Club
Hammersmith Blades (expensive membership?)

CPCC has a boat rack although I've been asking CPT for a space for the best part of two years with no success. I think EDGE has more room for boat storage although you'll need to ask them.

Ohh dodgy area, bring your sheleighly with you.

Thames valley free stylers is a good place to start they have loads of chat for what is going on. They concentrate a lot on the Thames weirs, Hurley etc.

A few miles down the A40 from the bush is Perivale where you'll find Ealing Canoe Club. Not a lot of whitewater on the Grand Union though but it might be worth a look.
