Acheivements From 2009

Post by edhunter » Thu Dec 17, 2009 7:06 pm

Along the same lines as Lowris thread about next year, what are your acheivements from this year that yoru paticularly proud of. mine are as follows:

Hitting the upper dart for the first time (sadly havnt made the Etive which was my other river on the must do by new years list)
Manageing nearly a whole year without a swim, includeing 2 weeks in the alps (sadly came unstuck in November)
And last but not least manageing to competantly surf and the beginnings of a fairly solid flatspin.

Nothing huge i know but it makes me smile :D

now how about you guys

That's what it's all about! :-)

My persoanl achievements, probably hitting Lead Mines Clough at a really good level for the first time. Getting my foot in the door way with these pieces of paper which are called 'qualifications' is it? Whatever they are?!?!?!

Enjoyed them all, especially the Okement. Well recommended if you get the chance.

It's been a good year for me: Paddled the Alps in May. Last weekend ran the East Lyn Gorge. Must say thanks to my club for their support and coaching...

Paddled whitewater for the first time
Paddled the Bitches on a fairly big tide
Only swam once all year but managed to do it infront of about a 100 people.
Got a smooth fast flatspin
Got a fairly bombproof roll

Nothing immpresive, but I'm happy with it .

Threw a relatively straight loop,
Threw a big airblunt (just the one or two mind you in nearly a week of learning),
Did a boof I was happy with,
Broke a boat,
Fixed a boat,
Did multiple past vertical ends,
Paddled in the Alps,
Paddled in Uganda,
Flatwater Cartwheeled my CU-Fly (It hurts a lot mind),
Successfully built a C1 to fit someone else.
ONE BLADE, ONE LOVE, [TOO] MANY PIES

Really improving my white water skills, enough to get to the Alps in June and only swimming once (on a flat bit, damned invisible rock, but too shallow to roll, so maybe it was just a crawl...)

Getting to division 1 in K1 (slalom).

And really getting into the C1 and managing to get it down the Tryweryn upright :-)

Finally, getting two of the nervous kids in the club down HPP, one in a kayak, the other in a C1, after months and months of confidence work with them.

I hurt myself more in 1 year of Mountain Biking than I have done in nearly 20 years of boating.
Still I love it and hope for more of the same next year.
Life is short. Filled with stuff.

Broke a boat on the river for the first time.
Broke a paddle on the river for the first time.
Paddling in a new country (Greece) and it was awesome.
Paddled some rivers in France I hadn't done before.

Lots of new rivers to be paddled in 2010 - maybe I should make a list!

Took a group from the Pyrenees up to the Highlands and out to Skye.

Although there wasn't a lot of water, everyone loved it and we're planning to head back.

Completely not related to paddling, top spot had to be the arrival of baby No 3.

Some great days down surfing at Woolie have to come as a close up great time although no massive achievement -just an ace time chilling out on some smallish waves

Well, I've only got time for 2-3 paddles before the end of the year, there isn't any rain due either, so it's probably good odds. :-)

That doesn't account for random people jumping on my boat and pulling the deck, though!

I went on a paddling weekend without forgetting a single thing... now that has to be a bigger achievement for me than any of the previous posts!!

More seriously:
Paddled most of the Inn in Austria which has been on my list for a while
Did my first bits of whitewater in an open boat - woo!
