Share the Love for 2010

Post by Lowri Davies » Wed Dec 16, 2009 10:52 am

Let's share some love! What are you looking forward to in 2010? - One rule, no negative comments allowed in this thread.

For me its plenty of snowboarding trips, learning to open canoe with a bit more skill, competing internationally in a raft team made up of lovely ladies and hopefully making it to Tibet for some first descents in Sept / Oct. As well as plenty of coaching with FlowFree, getting know even more lovely paddlers and lots of paddling across Wales to help with guidebook "research".

A few days in Val Sessia agian as a warm up for 3 weeks in California and Oregon with some good Kiwi friends. Then home to NZ for Xmas next year including a week in Mahinapua heli boating. Plus hopefully getting up to Scotland for Easter.

I also want to do some work on technique and hopefully do a couple of days with a good coach. Lastly selling my playboat to get a good quality inflatable so i can get some firends involved with my hobby/passion/obsession.

Yay 2010!

Starting the year off on Skye where we may or may not get paddling but we'll certainly have fun.

Hopefully moving back to Scotland in march.

Then a summer trip to New York State!

It's going to be a good year!

I hear there is some good paddling in NY state. Banzer and i did a bit of paddling with Dennis Squires who wrote the Guide book for the Catskills and Adarondaks (the mountian ranges in NYS). I think it's mostly rain fed - but there is some consistent stuff on the upper Hudson - certainly there is some great looking creeking if it rains!

I'll be honest I don't know a lot about it but I heard there was a fair bit of dam release stuff.

Would like to (but may not get all done...) do 5* Open training, run some river trips for the club, get to Scotland for a week of sea paddling round Oban.

Got a new job, starting January, so I hope to get some weekends free.

As the song says: "It's a new dawn, it's a new day, and I'm feeling good!"
Cheers

Starting a new job in January down in Shropshire, so should get plenty of decent quality boating in. Hopefully raising some money for the Cumbrian Flood Recovery fund too on the 17th of Jan. Fingers crossed our plans for California in May will pull of, all waiting on the thumbs up from a local boy over there. Yearly pilgrimage to the Alps follows and hopefully getting the new loacal run in decent levels to run the ugliness. Can't wait!

Also on my list for potentials this year: Val Sesia; a return to Norway for Sjoa Festival and some classic creeking; and the Freestyle World Cups.

-Lots of skiing both in Austria and (for the first time) Scotland, also my first forays into ski touring.
-More Scottish paddling, hoping to get out on some more of the classics when the rains come, and some of the Dee tribs look good to go
-Plans afoot for paddling trips to French Alps and Slovenia, both of which will be a first for me. There's potential for some Austrian padlding too
-Planning on trying to get L2 and moderate water endorsement by the summer, but could be tricky/expensive as I'd need to do 4 star too
-Hopefully/maybe at the end of summer do the Austrian raft guide course/assesment, in time for next summer after my ERASMUS exchange year in Innsbruck

Should be a good year!

Skiing in Tignes early feb, scotland at easter (just be good to get water) and hopefully get out to the garvellachs in May in my Sea Boat. Other than that I just want this season to have water so I can get out and paddle proper rivers with a good bunch of people.

As a side to going to all the normal good hots on Gene17's kayaking tour, I'll like to hit the KS Corsica Week, Voss Extreme Week, complete a new WWS&R DVD and may be hit the big run late in the Summer...........

Getting my level three instructorship in March,
Getting to use our four new sea kayaks a lot more. Got out last Sunday in them, and it was magnifique!
Pulling the finger out, and making sure the eight week summer road trip doesn't get relegated to just two weeks in the Alps.
I beat the internet! (The last guy was hard)

Polishing my technique on grade 4/4+ in the new year with some coaching, flowerpots rodeo, NSR2010, finishing university, taking a few months off to go paddling abroad hopefully in a number of different country for the first time for a good mix for playboating and big water river running.

I'm looking forward to getting back onto some rivers when I'm ready. Finally moved on to some extreme Grade 2 over the weekend!Over 6 months after the dislocation it was sooooooo good! It was probably the most excited I've ever been about paddling.

Learning how to roll again :)

Keeping fit for paddling.

Trying to take it slow.

Getting the instructor assessment done in March too, fingers crossed.

Trying seakayaking, racing, and open canoeing as things I can do without having to roll.

Hosting the intervarsities in Galway, that's going to be a brilliant weekend.

Maybe going paddling out foreign, if I'm up to it. Bringing the gym ball with me as well as the boat.

Going surf surfing, so I'll have something to do when people are paddling things I won't be up to doing yet.

I am holding out for a peachy day on the Mellte, I want to be in Ystradfellte ready to rock with a low level running, whilst three hours prior all manner of deluge had fallen. That should, with a bit of jiggery, give the elusive full run on the same day. :-)

And I would love to go back and play on the Versacha and check out the Wellebrooke low water (only ever been high season). And a big old abseil into a canyon somewhere would not go a miss either. :-)

Getting my driving licence,
Replacing my drysuit,
Going to the C-Boats European Armarda 2010 (assuming my exam timetable is agreeable to it),
Looping my CU-Fly,
Maybe finally running the Glen almost 4 months after promising Napier I'd go do it with him.
