Listened to Bloc Party: One More Chance before heading on the Dee at LLangollen recently, and son (Alex) and I had it on the brain for a wonderful paddle at Mile End Mill. t will always be associated with the Dee now!

For all round "go big song" it would have to be this, plus it makes me think of JustinG... http://link.brightcove.com/services/pla ... =327608264

Think that on the way to playboating it would have to be this-

And for psych me up to do something scary scary it has to be the Greece soundtrack... - this inparticular though.

Basically anything apart from these silly lincon park bands and stuff.

While on topic, does anybody know what the first song in the playboating bit is called in DoubleYouLess 2?

I have loads of favourites, Christopher's River by Biffy Clyro is ace, and sadly poignant right now.

For getting fired up, the Soundgarden album Superunknow has My Wave and Drown Me, as well as the excellent title track.

Also Underwater by Midnight Oil, I heard first on a surf video and is perfect for boating. Can anyone name the Laird Hamilton film?

Phil

PS Just remembered, love the Boatman and Riverflow by the Levellers

"Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' "(Limp Biscuit) Think song is called Chocolate Starfish?

Heard it on radio yesterday and thought lyrically a very apt song for paddling.

Everyone knows that for Sunday boating, it's the law to listen to Steve Wrights Sunday love songs on BBC radio 2, whilst driving to the rivers.

For some reason I ended up with Benny Hill's 'Ernie' going through my head as I ran the upper Dart on Saturday.

Words better than music.

MY KAYAK AND ME
Tom Joy/Brant N. Miller
(© 1993 Tom Joy Music/Final Vinyl Music, ASCAP)

I love my kayak, I hug it so tight
I keep it beside me all through the night
I blow up its airbags, I smooth its sprayskirt
I watch out for rocks just so it won't get hurt
When I'm in my kayak I'm in great company
I take care of it, it takes care of me
I take care of it, it takes care of me
My helmet is cracked, my life jacket's shot
My paddle's in bad shape, I think it's dry rot
But my roof racks are padded, my tiedowns are strong
Wherever I go, my kayak goes along
It's me and my kayak, inseparably
I take care of it, it takes care of me
I take care of it, it takes care of me
When I'm in my kayak and driftin' downstream
All of my troubles they're only a dream
Got no bills to pay, got peace in my soul
When I'm on the river, then I'm on a roll
Roll on in my kayak so wild and so free
I take care of it, it takes care of me
I take care of it, it takes care of me
Yes I'm a kayaker and I know when I die
I'll find that big river up in the sky
Where you run every rapid with just a boat scout
And once you put in, you don't have to take out
And my kayak will be there; I'll take it, you see
I take care of it, it takes care of me
I'll take care of it, it'll take care of me
