How do I fix a leaky dry suit?

Post by Will.S. » Wed Nov 25, 2009 9:34 pm

My palm stikine dry suit has now got a bit of a leak on the left bum cheek.

Having had a good look, there is no obvious hole, but a slightly worn area of fabric which I suspect is where the water gets in. I have previously fixed small holes with storm sure and bike puncture patches but this area is probably a bit too large.

Any ideas what I can do to restore a dry bottom?

Thanks Will.

Put a plastic football in neckseal and smaller ball in wrist/ ankle seals . Vacuum cleaner on blow to one wrist seal, inflate suit . Verify leaks with a brush and soapy water. Rinse, dry, repair with waterproof contact adhesive and any similar fabric (someones old cag)

Only ever had this sort of problem on my diving drysuit. you need to seal the neck seal and cuff seals and blow it up, I use a dive cylinder but you may need to use a vacuum cylinder on blow or something. Smear fairy liquid on the suspect area, it will blow bubbles. Never fails, just fixed a mystery leak on my diving drysuit!

Good Luck !

The best way: Send it off to palm for them to replace the worn panels.

The DIY way.
I've just completely covered the inside of a worn dry cag in 2.5 tubes of Aquasure. The next stage will be to line it with additional nylon fabric. It's one way of fixing a "dry" garment, of course it isn't breathable anymore but if you follow the DAM-X line of reasoning it doesn't need to be. I'll let you know how it goes..
