Kayaking Songs

Post by Bob Flanagan III » Thu Feb 21, 2008 9:52 am

What songs when you listen to them remind you of Kayaking. I'm not talking about serious Drum & Bass that you like to listen to in the car to get you in the mood but the lyrics remind you of Kayaking.

For Starters

Happy When It Rains - The Jesus and Mary Chain -Self Explanatory
Ballad Of Easy Rider - The Byrds

- and the lyrics

"The river flows
Flows to the sea
And where that river flows
That where I want to be"

For me it has to be "Rain is liquid sunshine" by Los Burritos. It features on Westgarth's Adventures in Loonerland and can be downloaded from Westgarth tv

It seems very apt for paddling, especially in this country.

You philistine! Feeling good is a Nina Somone classic that should have only stayed as a live gig party piece by Muse, by putting it on an album they killed it (although nearly everything by Muse they do better live).

Nina Simone

Also Surfin Bird is a cover by the Ramones, original is done by The Trashmen

Are there any more of these needing uncovering?

I like Travelling Riverside Blues, the Led Zep cover version (original Robert Johnson)

Bloodhound gang - discovery chanel

The only song that i know has capsize in it.

So if I capsize on your thighs
High tide B-5 you sunk my battleship
Please turn me on

The song is called 'The bad touch' rather than discovery channel but they could indeed be talking about a kayak as the lines before those do suggest a small craft.

"Hieroglyphics? let me be specific I wanna be down in your south seas
But I got this notion that the motion of your ocean means small craft advisory"

Denzil

p.s. It is off the album 'Hooray for boobies' which is a grand album and a grand sentiment.
