Just how do some of these companies stay afloat?

Post by TheKrikkitWars »

I'm thinking of Wild Water and Canyon Gear here, Their equipment seems unchanged from ten years ago, their websites offer little insight into what they provide, and above all you never seem to see their gear (apart from the WW Helmets) on the water.

Wildwater stopped tradng 2 or 3 years ago. Allan Ellard's mother who runs Canyon Gear, mainly makes specific order's and only needs an internet image to retain this level of business.

That answered my question original question, but raises the question how come you can still get new Wild Water Helmets, did someone stockpile them?

And whilst I think of custom gear, anyone know how to contact dam-x?

The Wild Water entry on Companies House indicates that the company is non-trading and 'dormant'. Last accounts submitted 2005.

Mark Baker may be trading as a sole proprietor?

Wild water is still operating. However it is only a trading name i believe as it is now part of a much larger business. I think much of the clothing and b'aids are private label but the helmets are still being made.

Im sure I saw a 2007 catalouge at the centre I work at. hence my post inthe previous post.

There gear looks exactly the same.

Tehy took over Diamond wetsuits etc years back or the other way round..

May be they operate under a differnet name, but just sell gear withthat brand..

but still the kit look dated.

I live near the factory, or where it used to be, I may take a stroll round and have a nosey.

I think they own the mold to the old euro Kayaks Cypher and Conquest, I know they were on their stand at the NEC quite a few years ago. I used to work at a centre where we had some Conquests, post Euro Kayaks era. The molding quality was a bit questionable!

Wild Water are still trading. It is a brand name for a company called CCA Ltd, they are also part of Diamond Wetsuits. There main line of business is in the Health area where they manufacture protective work wear. They still seel the Wild Water helmets and they are also one of the UK suppliers of RTM kayaks! The guy who heads teh company is Mark Baker and the lady who would have probably answered the phone is called Kay. Both great people and always very helpful when i contact them for work!

I hope that answers.........
