This is an interesting silence!
Are all of you out there bound like Tees Active by a confidentiality clause about this extended four week 'private booking'?

Your first post didn't exactly give people a lot to respond to.

I know nothing about it, but you're making it sound like something is being filmed there. Some god-awful reality tv programme would be my guess.

I don't suppose you just tried phoning the course and asked for actual information before asking 'the internet'?

I asked when I was there on Saturday!
The only information that Tees Active are able to give is that this is a 'private booking'.
The background is that the venue was originally built and later modernised with public funds and is managed by a social enterprise.
A core purpose is to provide open public access (subject to competence) for training/practice/recreation.
My first post was intended to trigger a debate, particularly amongst other regular users.

Whole thing's a shambles, how they've taken a well used facility open virtually every day and turned it into something that's open every other blue moon is beyond me.
Public money down the drain, what a waste

Same as most other facilities, funds are available for set up, but not for running costs, so it has to pay it's way & most days won't.

Hahaha. My thoughts entirely.
Actually, more accurately; my thoughts phrased in a more polite manner ;-)

but not for running costs
I spoke to a regular there the other day who actually asked how much it costs to run the facility per day (not including staff costs), and it was dirt cheap. So not exactly the huge overhead that a place like Cardiff has. This is because Tees generates a lot of its own power, and screws are turned on and off according to the tides. The course doesn't even need any screws turned on to work.

What seems to be the main cause of consternation is that the management are completely hopeless, or unwilling, to communicate with users. Not just regarding the June shutdown, but with regard to the course set up too, which at the moment it seems like they've been around the course identifying all the good features, and then removing them! When we went the other day, Happy Eater was really shallow. Hit the nose pretty much every time when plugging. The management needs to actually actively engage with the community and get the course set back up with good features. It could be an amazing facility. But it can't be if the management simply doesn't want to engage.

Certainly doesn't help, but I think you'll find staff costs are the biggest outlay at most artificial courses...

Where do they make most of their money, as requirements for rec boaters, rafts & emergency services safety training are quite different?

The course is owned by Canals & Rivers Trust, but managed by Tees Active Limited, who run most of the pools & some other sports facilities in that part of the country.

Sounds like you're experiencing the same sorts of woes we're having with HPP and Serco...

So, it should be open again - don't suppose this & the Low Force cables had anything to do with filming for the latest Bond movie, as they are currently out & about...

I believe that it's a Spielberg film that's being made there.

He's supposed to be currently filming Indiana Jones 5.

Well he is supposed to be...

But it is massively delayed, they don't expect to start shooting until next year. So it must be another film.
