Should I attach a skeg

Post by Mini2 » Sat Aug 18, 2018 9:39 pm

Hi
I got an old Dagger outlaw old school play boat that I'm using for surfing ,
Would it be a good idea to attach a skeg (fin) to it ,
Can it be done.
Would it make any different.
Thanks

A skeg refers to a particular kind of fin which is placed at the stern to help keep the boat running in a straight line, it's not what you want for surfing. The fins for surfing are fitted just behind the middle of the boat. I looked into this years ago and there was a company in the US who made a fin box for retro-fitting to plastic boats but as this involved cutting a slot in the boat I decided that it was too much hassle and ended up buying myself a surf kayak instead. The company may still exist, if you really want to go ahead with this it might be worth a Google.

Also you might get more information if you post on the surfing forum instead.
it's not a playboat, it's a river runner
