As per a different topic about a dry suit I’ve now realised I need to upgrade my PFD to a one with a harness built in, do you guys recommend the palm fxr or would a different pfd me more suitable, I mean I’d love the green jacket but can’t justify the cost just yet.

All PFDs will meet minimum standards so if you go with a reputable brand you will be fine for performance, Palm, Nookie, Peak, Yak.

Beyond that it is important that it fits and feels comfortable when you are wearing it for a whole day. So best thing is to go to your local store and try a few on.

I went for the Yak Rakau, entry level but still 70N and a decent amount of pockets etc - perfect for what I need.

Make sure whatever you buy doesn't clash with your drysuit - nothing worse than the colour not being aesthetically pleasing! ;)

Is there a specific reason for your statement "now realised I need to upgrade my PFD to a one with a harness " i.e. why do you need a PFD with a harness, is it because someone said you need one for your type of paddling, or do you have another reason?

Above grade 3 Id say a harness is essential. And strongly recommended for G3 too.
Pdfs are always a balance of comfort and fit and what you can afford.
Its actually quite remarkable how different each brands fit is.
Deffo go try a few on.

Reason being my current PFD, which I use for sea kayaking and doesn’t have a harness, and also the fact I’m booked onto a WWSR course so after looking at the syllabus it is required.
And new toys are always fun to have
