Missing British woman in the Amazon

Post by RSabur »

Hello,

I'm trying to find out more information about a 43-year-old British woman who was canoeing / kayaking along the Amazon. She began her journey in Quito, Ecuador and went missing between Coari and Codajas in Brazil.

I am a journalist from the Daily Telegraph covering the story and would be very grateful to hear from anyone who may have more information about where she started her trip. A name and picture of her would likely aid the search

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/09 ... azon-says/

Many thanks,

Rozina

Hello Rozina,
Whilst that's terrible, I don't understand how the Telegraph having her name and picture will help.
The local Police and the British Consulate appear to know exactly who the woman is and do not want this information released.

It appears that you're trying to go around their decision. Given that we don't know why the Police and the Consulate are with holding her name, I don't think I'd want to help you even if I were able.

Sorry.

If there is a likelihood of kidnap, not releasing her name would make very good sense and may assist in the best outcome. The media might do more harm than good by pursuing this.

She began her journey in Quito, Ecuador...
I somewhat doubt she started her paddling in Quito, as if she did she'd have struggled to reached the Amazon..

She came to a pool session earlier this year and spoke of her plans. I hope all turns out ok.

From an acquaintance that travelled with her:

Dear friends, I am very sorry to report the news of the murder of Emma Tamsin Kelty, who was nearly 2/3 of the way into her source-to-sea journey down the Amazon when she was attacked and killed. I was fortunate to have been with her at the beginning of her journey in mid-June as she hiked up to the source. She continued with SierraRios support services for 45 days until she reached the end of the Andes, and had been kayaking solo approximately another 44 days to the time of her death near Manaus (Brazil). Emma was a woman with a dream for adventure and the boldness to embark on journeys that few in our world can muster the courage for - "Because life is too short to be anything else". One of her impressive previous accomplishments was trekking solo to the South Pole. She also was a teacher and school administrator who touched the lives of many. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends.
