When friends ask if we are kayaking at the weekend and I reply no we're going canoeing.

That doesn't compute, surely home is also a paddling related place too? It's where I store and repair all my boats and dry my kit out.
I sometimes even sleep here, but I think that's purely a consequence of all my paddling gear being here.

Did suggest a swimming pool but the gardens a bit small.

No such thing as too much paddling (I don't manage to do enough)

If you need a Sat Nav to find the Dart Loop you don't paddle enough.

Sat Nav isn't for finding your way!
It is for:
- Estimating how long until you get there
- Provides an accurate speedometer
- Lets you know its getting dark (screen mode changes)
- Makes irregular sounds to keep you awake, such as turn left in 100 yards or the various pings when it thinks it has worked out a faster route or there might be a speed camera
- Connects to your phone to more quickly drain its own battery and your phone's battery, or your increase your fuel consumption if you plug it into the car.
- A by product of being connected to your phone is that it can warn you of upcoming delays so you can turn off and get thoroughly lost trying to avoid them.
- In extremis you may actually follow its chosen route around a jam, but it is much better to ignore it until you are well and truly lost.
- If it is an app on your phone, it is mainly for telling you to take a wrong turn into an area with no mobile reception so it can't recalculate a route back to where you should be, forcing you to use your sense of direction instead.

I use mine pretty well every journey (except to work) no matter how automatically I can drive it.

My sister in law thought my wife and I had had a falling out on holiday as all my photos were of sea, rivers and waterfalls. I have since attempted to expand beyond photographing water features.

Its also so the non paddling shuttle driver can find there way to the get out meet you, it save on lost car keys and means you get more paddling time ;-)

I no longer have a spare room. I now have a "wet-kit" room. The dining room also has a kayak in it...

Only the dining room?
I have one in the lounge always and room to hang another (usually when curing a repair), a C1 in a bedroom and currently a canoe in the conservatory (bad place to store PE boats in hot weather), although for the last 2 weeks there has been a composite C1 in there.

Yeah, and I have a plywood open canoe on the patio. Because where else would you store it? I do have the use of a Scout hall, where we store most of our stuff though, so...

You could use a smart watch. I think they can tell you when it is getting dark.
All the usual scratches...
