How long should I wait before getting rid of my Kayaking gear.

Post by chriscw » Tue Jan 31, 2017 2:18 pm

Following back surgery it is no longer safe for me to attempt and serious paddling in a kayak. I can still canoe on placid water but any situation in which more than floating will be required to self rescue looks a bit irresponsible. I am still undergoing further assessment and treatment but due to the tendency of my back to go in to intense spasms of pain with no warning I think it may be time to call it a day.

How long should I wait?

Sorry to hear that and I hope you can find something that will give you a similar amount of pleasure.

I may return more to my childhood occupation of reading. As a child asthma prevented most sports.... I could perhaps read about paddling!

I can still cycle which has its practical side as I can no longer walk more than 200 yards even on the best days.

Oh wow, so sorry to hear this Chris, I thought you were on the mend now?

To be honest, if there is no pressure to sell off the kit, I'd be inclined to keep it, even if only for flat water summer use, or similar. Maybe in a year or so's time look again at the situation?

As always, you know where I am if I can help in anyway mate, just give me a shout.

Cheers,

Colin
