Worst name for a boat?

Post by Chalky723 » Fri Sep 30, 2016 3:23 pm

Exactly that! When someone asks you what your boat is do you stand proud & say it in a loud voice or look at your shoes & mutter??

Popped into my head whilst reading about the Waka "Gangsta" & Pyranha "Machno" - I then remembered the Riot "Dominatrix" from days gone by...

I'm sure some of you can think of worse ones.

Cheers!

There was a composite slalom kayak called "Split". Probably referred to the town in Croatia where they hold international slaloms, but didn't give much confidence about what happens if you hit a rock!

I think it's quite nice that Pyranha are naming a boat after a N. Wales river.
it's not a playboat, it's a river runner

But the worst name ever must be the Dominatrix, difficult to top that one I would think

Avoncraft decided to re-name for UK imports the Prijon Hurricane the Avenger thus swapping a rather good 2nd world war fighter plane's name for that of a British Leyland mediocre car!

I stand corrected! I even had one. They were that good I was given one because it had no sale value!

A second vote for Dominatrix as the worst boat name.

My 11 year old paddles one & it's ideal for him ( When he first got it, he rapidly worked out that I didn't want to explain what the name meant. Of course, he decided to ask everybody else instead - grandparents, friends, teachers ...

Some of the Bliss-Stick names were a bit naff: RAD (Radical Aerial Device), MAC (Mission Assault Craft)... had them both...

The "Stripper" surf kayak many moons ago. It followed on from the "Ripper" which was a ok/good/appropriate name.

LL boats often have odd names but Mullet and the graphic that go with it are a new weird even for Shane and co !

The LL Braaap is a pretty naff name along with the Mullet.

It's not just naff names that can put folks off… I'm sure the old JK smiley logo stopped a few folks buying their boats. Glad they've moved to a simpler less cheesy JK now.

I love that Pyranha have named a boat after one of our Brit Ditches. Wicked name.
It would be great if they stuck 20 quid on the price of every boat [who'd notice] and put it towards the Save the Conwy.
