Slovenia travel by Road

Post by andy g » Thu Jun 11, 2015 11:43 am

I guess that most will have already been to Slovenia this year as it is getting late in the season, but if you are driving out from the UK via Luxembourg , please be warned that the stretch of non-autobhan road from Pirmasens to Landau is closed and the "official" diversion (Umleitung in German) is highly scenic but terribly slow. We were warned and diverted north on the A6 , but this added 50+ miles to the journey and made getting from cheap diesel in Lux to Slovenia even more challenging.

The level of the Soča was low last week due to a lack of winter snow in the Julian Alps and insufficient rain to make good the shortfall. The Koritnica was also low and falling while we were there. It was paddleable but watch out for the rocks.

Any idea why it is closed, Will it be long term. Were going out end of July and that would be our route.

Steve

The translation from Adrian suggests that this will be finished by end June, and knowing the Germans it probably will be, but I would be prepared for the eventuality that it isn't, and have your own pre-planned diversion rather than rely on the signposted one.
