Glad to see my subs being put to good use.

I wonder which events this chap will turn up at. I'm guessing not the World Kayak Freestyle Championships because their Facebook page doesn't seem to have heard about this. (Despite my reminding them)

Oh FFS! Strangely it doesn't particularly inspire me to put my hand in my pocket and join up. Maybe I'm not in their target market...

Quite apart from the awful mascot, that is a terrible publicity photo - it is out of focus (at least the mascot is*), and the stripes behind him are partly obscured by a radiator. It could only have been worse if taken outside and they had managed to get a tree or pole growing out of its head....

*is the RHS of the radiator in focus?

I think their PR people saw Rodeo Rabbit, thought it was
"Rad, that's what the young people say nowadays isn't it?",
but didn't really get it right:

And it would have been on message as every time you asked it if it was doing anything about access it could say "I can't"

But consider the marketing opportunities...

Hopefully, I'll receive a free toy MacGregor when I renew my BCU membership :-)

MacGregor the bulldog... ... discusses the BCU policy on access?

No, didn't think so.

Presumably, the "thing" is providing a useful service letting people know when they're holding their paddles upside down.

The logo was bad enough. The bulldog -well if it only looked like a bulldog- is hardly a canoeing icon!

Never ever allow a Bulldog to swim or be near a pool or water source when unattended.

Bulldogs don't swim and will die fast, in a matter of seconds.

About as much use as a BCU ashtray on the cockpit then.

Hmm, me thinks that paddler isn't a BC funded paddler.

He appears to be thinking, "WTF?" just like any other normal paddler.

What a huge waste of money / effort and just shows how out of touch the governing body is. It is no longer a representative body in any sense of the word.

And as relevant as the trolley tokens and tote shopping bags on the BCU women's store

Presumably it's meant to be a symbol of virile sporting patriotism. In which case it looks decidedly under-endowed in the trouser department. (Then again, perhaps the absence of visible b*****ks is deliberate.)

On the contrary -- I think not swimming is something we, as kayakers, should aspire to.

Yes... After all, that site doesn't say anything about whether bulldogs can kayak.

Which fool is hiding in the suit?

They did not show any bulldog spirit when the Angling Trust threatened them with court action. If they were not such childiish idoits they could have seen AT off but they want to be everyone's friend There negotiating position is still rolling over to have their belly tickled. Now they can do it in a suit.

I have to say I disagree - think it's absolutely brilliant.
Nothing could be more appropriate.

It's exactly as out of tune with the every day paddler as BC are.
Well done BC. You have echoed your brand positioning bang on with this.

Idiots.

Could not be even more insightful if I tried. British Canoeing's outrageous lack of vision, brand development and comprehension as to how people see paddling, especially paddlers is boringly shocking. God knows what non-paddlers think......

You get the impression it's designed for consumption by spectators in a similar way the Olympics had their one eyed monster mascots. If you are more interested in participating than spectating, the mascot would appear entirely irrelevant. And if you job is promoting participation, that's exactly what it will be, irrelevant.
