M5 Heads up "Midweek Boating first world issues"

Post by morsey »

Heading down to Dartmoor today and the M5 has restrictions for all vehicles with roof luggage. Roof boxes, kayaks etc only allowed in the two left hand lanes. Highways officers are handing out details at the service stations and a height barrier is due to be installed on the outside overtaking lane. Expect long delays come the weekend. We took our boats off and put them inside for the journey so we could still hit the overtakes, fighter pilot style.

The height barrier should be interesting. What purpose does it serve?

In my experience cars tend to go faster with boats on top. Morsey - did putting the boats inside slow you down much?

Is that going to be a permanent thing then?

Wasn't aware it was illegal to use the outside lane if you had roof luggage - surely the clincher should be whether you can reach 70 rather than height?
