HPP – on the scrounge...

Post by DaveBland » Thu Jul 31, 2014 7:21 pm

Okay… I had big plans of hitting up LV when back, but a few too many days in Vegas first have cut my trip short.
So I'm thinking of hitting HPP - for old times sake maybe one evening as I'm in Nottingham.

Is it possible to rent boats and gear there? I'd be looking to grab full kit as I have brought nothing. I'll be in Leamington first, so in theory could rent from there first.
Big issue is I need left-handed paddles.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

dave

Dave

DM have a shop at the course and usually have demos. I would give them a ring to make sure before hand. I also understand that they have werner demos. LH may be pushing it tho... Maybe time to become ambidextrous ;)

Incidentally are you there this weekend?

You could try canoekayaktrader in Leamington. They might be able to rent you some stuff.

If you're in Leam go down to CKT and speak to Matt. Cool guy (he must've been to emply me for 8 years or so!) and a good range of playboats.

When are you coming and what size are you? I have a superstar, superego and nomad and some vintage software. DM will have lh blades and now run the peak shop as well as their old one. I'm in Nottingham and happy to help out if I'm around.

What size boat do you need? I live in Coventry and have my business in Kenilworth (where my boats are kept), I have a Biscuit 65 and a large Axiom, you're welcome to borrow either boat and full kit (right handed paddle though).

Thanks everyone. A few unfortunate things got in the way so it'll wait til next time.
At least I have the end of the season to look forward to. Determined to head back this way to catch some old faves later in the year. Thanks again all!

Shout out to those nice folks at DesMes for sorting me out with some kit and the nice raft folks for a BA and Lid.
Will be hitting up HPP in the morning for a nostalgia paddle.
Gimme a shout if you are there - I'll be the old guy shivering without a drytop

I doubt if you were shivering in today's temperatures, and the water won't have been much cooler either.
it's not a playboat, it's a river runner

Let me get this straight. You flew from Alberta (Land of glacier fed rivers) to HPP for a paddle and will spend the entire return flight in the bathroom. Interesting.
Sadly it will be another month before I make it to the UK or I'd have come and delivered my pithy humor in person.

Shame I'll miss ya. Guess i will have to endure the hardships of pithy humor by internet intil a Cali trip is calling...

So for an update on the HPP scrounging - deferred the poisoning until Sat morning. Turned up on Thurs in the grey rain with a hangover and had a moment of clarity. Plus Iforgot my shorts.
