Hi,
I know this has been asked a million times in the past but looking for some up to day info, I'm planning to bring a group of improvers from Ireland to the might Tryweryn for a weekend in early August if there is water. We are planning on camping, if memory serves me correct Tyn Cornel has a bit of a poor reputation with kayakers, is this still the case.
Are there any other places close by worth a look that don't cost the earth? We'll be a group of about 12 and pretty quiet.
All information greatly received.
Adrian

We used Tyn Cornel & it was fine.
As long as you arrive before the site closes for the night & follow a few common sense rules you should be OK!

This place is a little out of town but has a large camping field and good facilities:

This place is lake-side on the Bala side very nice site, facilities just a bit less:
http://www.glanllyn.com/
Another place I've heard is good but not used:
http://www.balacamping.co.uk/
All of these are a short drive from the Tryweryn and a short drive from the town for dinner in the evening.

My club always stay at http://tyisafbala.co.uk/. Only £5 per person per night and you can have open fires. Basic facilities but friendly and flexible when booking for a large group.

One thing worth considering is if you camp by a river it will be midge haven. Tyn Cornel was fine with good facilities and friendly staff, but use insect repellant! Tyisif is very good, very friendly but facilities are old. There was another siteat other end of Bala lake which was good also. We always use Tyisif now and shower at Treweryn when we go.

We camp here: http://www.bwch-yn-uchaf.co.uk/
It's in the village of Llanuwchllyn at the top end of Bala lake, a spacious but basic campsite, right next to the river Twrch, but not particularly cheap.
However, the pub in the village is decent (10 mins walk).
We also have a list of links of various accommodation here:

Just back from our short trip, we stayed in Ty Isaf. Sure it's basic but at £5 a head it's perfect.
The owners are easy going and being able to have a camp fire was a bonus.

Good to hear Adrian, were you in the field down the lane from main road not far from the river

We were in the small top field that slightly higher than the rest of the site to the left of the 'office'.
