We're "manning up" in memory of Emily Parker

Post by misspaddler » Sat Sep 07, 2013 12:45 pm

Hi Everyone,

Some of you may remember but Easter 2010 was a tough Easter for the paddling community, and during that time we at LUUCC suffered the devastating loss of our good friend Emily Parker whilst paddling on the Coe.

We feel its high time we did something to thank those who were of such great support to us, and are therefore trying to raise some money for Glen Coe Mountain Rescue Team, who tirelessly worked in horrendous conditions to locate Emily on the river, and then were a huge support to her family and friends after.

To that end, myself and seven other nutters are going to be hauling ourselves around the Yorkshire Tough Mudder course tomorrow. It is an 11mile course with 25 military style obstacles that takes in some stunning, but gruelling Yorkshire scenery. The team is made up of 7 lovely ladies, and we're hoping to be living up to Emily's oft heard mantra of 'man the f**k up girls, if the boys can do it..."

If you want to look at the event, you can do so here, http://toughmudder.com/video/ and our sponsorship page is here http://www.justgiving.com/Em-s-Army

Even if you didn't know Emily, Glen Coe MRT are an incredible organisation who work for no money all year round to keep us safe whilst we're out playing in the outdoors, they need all the help they can get to continue to do so.

Thanks everyone

Nic, Lucy, Sarah, Helen, Lou, Vicky and Claire

So we've done it!

12 miles, ice, mud, barbed wire, horrendous obstacles, bruises, blood, sweat (and a few tears). It was hard but totally worth it in memory of Em. If anyone would like to give some money for our endeavours (and in Vicky's case a broken nose) then please do. All of the money will go to Glencoe Mountain Rescue who do such amazing work and provide amazing support for people like us.

Awesome effort - any pics?

I did a TM last year. Can't say I enjoyed the electrocution bit much...

It was amazing! All came down to great teamwork and not forgetting why we were doing it. The arctic enema was the worst for me although the electrocution wasn't exactly pleasant! Some photos...
