Looks like a flash flood, but judging by the amount of machined timber in there and the convenience of someone being there to video it I can't help wondering if it was staged, like removal of a temporary dam or something.

was thinking either a blockage that has formed upstream being removed (would explain the coincidence of the camera being there and that the people dont seam to shocked) or a dam being taken out, seams bizzar to have that much timber in such a small river though... either way i wouldn't want to swim in it!

Just done some more digging and googlemaped the town it happened in and there is a barrage/dam just upstream if you look at the satellite image. So its obvious they have just opened it up.

What grade should be put in the guidebook?

Grade 1-2 99.9% of the time

Or

Grade 6+ in flash flood?? 0.1% of the time

Or average the 2 and give it a

Grade 2+

:-)

The late Ian Beecroft, Deb Pinniger and I were about to put on on the Drance near Ian's house when this local came up and told us not to as they were about to "flush the river" and all sorts of debris would be coming down. It wasn't as bad as this footage but .....
