New Guide book one word 'IMPRESSIVE' !!!!!!!!

Post by Teddy Tim » Mon Mar 11, 2013 1:48 pm

Just had Slime call around at mine and guess what he pulled out of his rucksack an unbound copy of the new North West guide book written by Stuart Miller and there is just one word to describe it and that is 'IMPRESSIVE', so much content and as Stuart always wanted more upto date pictures that the book is full of,excellent job Stuart, believe it is available from the 22/23rd of March.

Re: Canoe & Kayak Guide to NW England

I am delighted to confirm that the book will should be available in your local retail shop from around the 23rd March - if you want to be certain of an early copy then please order direct from the distributors Cordee - http://www.cordee.co.uk.

We have had a sample sewn but not glued copy back from the printer and the first adjective that struck me was "impressive" - I took it round to show Tim and he used just the same word to describe it! Stuart has done an excellent job and this new edition looks brilliant - all 368 shiny pages of it - lots of lovely full colour maps and photos! For more details please see our website www.riverspublishing.co.uk.

We will be having a book launch on Friday evening the 22nd March - please email me or Stuart if you have contributed to the book and not yet been invited.

Good paddling,

Pete Knowles, Rivers Publishing.

Pre-ordered it from the Book Depository (they deliver free anywhere), cheaper than evil Amazon...

Amazon bought the book depository a few years ago, I'm afraid.

Or get it direct from the distributor as Slime suggests and make sure the people deserve it get the money, rather than some third party ;-)

What's the river on the front cover?

PS My memory fails me; did I write the 'Paddles' mag quote on the back cover?

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. The authors will get the same whether you buy it through Cordee or Amazon.

Short of buying it from the Authors - if you want to support kayaking buy your books from kayaking shops. It won't get much more to the authors but it will keep kayak shops pottering along nicely. :-)

Just started reading through mine after it arrived this morning. Modern looking with good updates and just enough of the old guide's style to be nostalgic. A very readable guide that will no doubt become dog-eared with trip planning joy. Nice job.

I think that your local specialist retail shop should now have copies - if they had placed an order of course.

Thank you to all the contributors - you should receive your copy through the post by Thursday - if you did not pick it up at that quiet knitting party last Friday.

For those looking to buy one, then maybe if you are a BCU member, consider Cotswold Camping which I think is offering a 20% discount to members over the Easter weekend.

Enjoy!

Pete Knowles, Rivers Publishing.

p.s. Does anyone know of a more detailed, quality, all colour guide book of this size, anywhere else in the world?

Well done Stuart, a great read and superb publication, I want to head North and try some of these rivers. Two great guides out recently, the Welsh one and this.

Used the guide to convince a novice kayaking friend that he would manage the Rothay just fine and didn't need to feel anxious - and he did the whole lot, even the 3- bit, no swims :)
