River Dee, Llangollen, N.Wales 9th July '16: 17C (64F)

A dull, dreary day and the river was also in a bad mood because of all the rain this past few weeks. Level was up with much of the flat rocks submerged - the river almost in spate. Water slightly turbid. We stuck to dipping in the shallows because any swimmer ending up in the channel would most likely be swept down towards the Town Weir and end up a gonner. Plenty of raft traffic on the river throughout the afternoon but I've not seen those lie-on thingies before. No Welsh Dee Partnership apparatchik turned up to moan at us while there are none of WDP's threatened "No Swimming" notices at the flat rocks.

Had an excellent coffee, and a bacon, cranberry and brioche toastie thingy at Gradient Food (thanks Phil).

We used two cameras so the date-stamped pics were taken using my waterproof Olympus TG810 while the others were taken by a venerable Fufifilm FinePix 6900Z bridge camera.

Edit- Senior moment - cocked up the photo dates but leaving them as they are as the links won't work otherwise.

Not been swimming outdoors very much hence no fresh posts - basically been confined to the chlorine pit. Will repost as soon the opportunity presents itself.

Been swimming in the chlorine pit since my last post, basically pool km's for calorie burning. I use a snorkel mask (Easybreath) so I swim lengths underwater listening to music via my bone-conduction mp3 headset. I've been encouraged to go outdoors again but the problem is, I don't have transport. However I may be in a position to post again hopefully in the near future

Sorry for not posting for quite a while but have had two spells in hospital with decompensated heart failure. Any swimming since has been indoors in my local leisure centre.

I can't walk very far any more, don't have any personal transport, so depend on lifts to go swimming outdoors. I'd be delighted to hear from anyone who can give me a lift to go swimming outdoors. Needless to say I contribute to expenses, fuel etc.

Hi Pete

Sorry to hear of your issues at present. Hope you can manage as best you can.

I am unable to help I am afraid. Sorry about that but I am struggling currently in terms of money also.

I can tell you that temp at R Weaver on Tuesday 25 June was 16.8C/62.24F.

I hope you will recover as best you can.

All the best and take care.
