New Tree on the Nith 11th feb

Post by hogboy » Fri Feb 11, 2011 5:44 pm

There is a new tree on the river nith at the last rapid before the pop out hole/play spot. It's the rapid with a bit of a pourover/stopper on river right that can get quite boily where a stream runs in on river left.

The tree is 30m or so down from this spanning the main flow. At 2.5 ft on the Drumlanrig gauge, any competant paddler woudl be able to paddle under it. My guess is that up to possibly 3.5 it woudl be OK. After that there may be some entrapment risk.

It looks like the next major rain will move it.

If you are on there in the next couple of weeks, caution woudl be good for groups.

The rain on saturday night has now dislodged the tree. Lookslike normal service is resumed.

As the Nith hit high levels today, it maye be worth being a bit cautious on your next run down.
