Anyone got any idea when the leven releases at a high enough but not too high level?...

If you want to get the Leven at a good 'first time level' where end of the World is paddleable without a big munchy hole at the bottom of the main slide, then you don't need a release. A decent flow under the footbridge just above Kinlochleven is all you need; a good rainfall is often enough to bring it up sufficiently. I have no knowledge of any sort of routine for releases and, short of walking up 8kms to have a look at the dam, it's hard to tell anyway!

Last rapid under bridge runnable but shallow with rocks showing then river will "go".
If everything covered, be ready! :-)
Needs moderate rain only.
A/WWSR 4/5star (river & sea) with the best!
