Mellte tree update: Anything above a 0.7/0.8 you probably wont have chance to eddy out before the tree so when the mini gorge starts with the two trees that have fallen right across (the ones you can paddle under) You should try and get out on the left asap.
Middle Tawe also has 5 new trees, 2 of them are portages.
Nedd Fechan is littered with trees, I'm not sure where to start with that one...
2/3 small drops run and the 2 20fters are clear but the rest is not.
There are many trees in the river at the moment, at five separate locations, and levels dependant they can either be limbo, dodged or need to be portaged. A couple of landslides will probably put more trees in the water with the next heavy winds and high water!
Loads of trees in the river still, most you can sneak around (or duck under!) at 0.5/0.6/0.7 levels. Many are in positions that currently don't affect but with high water they could move.
Regardless of updates, you always have to keep an eye out trees, them's the rules bro.
Trees are still being reported in the Mellte from the South Wales FB group. Three trees as of 24/12/2013 and there has been some movement of at least one in recent high levels. Not totally sure of locations, but watch out as at least one requires hoping out around, the others may/may not go at certain levels!
Please do not egress river-right at the Mellte / Neath confluence (between Dinas Rock & Glynneath): I have been contacted by the landowner there, who explained that what used to be wasteland is now part of his garden and he doesn't really want canoeists walking through it (or even camping on it!). Please use alternative egress points e.g. Dinas Rock or further downstream on the River Neath. Thanks!
