Does anyone have any views on the minimum paddleable level for the Skenfrith - Monmouth section?

cheers.

Depends on what your hoping for can be run at most levels, personally wouldn't paddle without a decent bit of rain!

Hi Dave, the EA guage on their website needs to be at around 0.4m to make it worth while. Did the upper Monnow from longtown down to Pontrilas in Dec, 2 portages one fence, one tree. Last time I did Skenfrith down there were no problems at all. Jason

Did skenfrith to monmouth last month. No fence problems but two trees down, one is a bit of a strainer across the river about 3 - 4 miles from monmouth, the other is just about passable, i should imagine the flood debri would have either made them un passable or would have demolished quite a few branches. The wier at the end is ok
But dont got to the far end as two big corkscrew turbines ready to make mincemeat of anyone going into them.

Paddled Monnow evening last week, 1m on EAW guage at Skenfrith. Skenfrith to Monmouth, great level, no strainers. Just beware I have paddled this in canoe, in big flood, you could just get under Skenfrith Bridge, and the towback on the weir before Monmouth was over 10m! Very scary to watch. Jason

Paddled the Monow from the layby on the 465 near Pontrilas down to Monmouth on the weekend of 18/19 Nov 2017. A bit scrapey, but of greater concern was the very large number of trees down. A couple needed portaging, and several others would be impassable in higher flow. Of even greater concern was the barbed wire fence full width on the river at Ludlow at the end of the long High wall river left. Again, at these flows we could get out and go over and under the double wires, but at higher flows it would be difficult to stop or get out.
