Afon Mellte Trees in river

Post by morsey » Wed Aug 24, 2016 11:21 am

Trees currently in the rapid just downstream from Sgwd yr Pannwr (Mega waterfall number three).

Levels in photo are about 0.8 on Pontneddfechan gauge. One tree visible, one underwater. The group spent two hours chopping as much of the lower one off as they could.

You can take the far river left channel (behind the paddler in the photo), it's a slide entry to this rapid so need to be far left at the top (This is fairly standard line to take as you can then see if the rapid is clear and join the central flow if clear or stay and take the slide if not).

Obviously if these trees shift they are likely to end up in the mini gorge sections leading to slot and drop.
