Near the village of Llanspyddid. They have put walking planks a quarter of the way out into the river. Potentially really nasty.
Canoe Wales environment/access officer is chasing it with Natural Resources Wales.

Hmmn.
OK, I'll bite.
The attached PDF wrote:Dates for canoeing: 18th October to 2nd March inclusive.
Who do you consider to be bound by these terms and conditions?
It looks like yet another attempt by the Wye and Usk foundation to assert control over navigation - something they have no control over.
The pdf wrote:In the event of high water outside this period, additional access is granted when...
See what I mean? Granted by whom? What right do they have to control navigation?
the pdf wrote:...granted when the water height on the gauge at Brecon http://www.wyeuskfoundation.org/conditions/gauge3.php is above the red marker.
I'm all for responsible paddling and if this represents the minimum level at which the river is paddleable, then great! Is "red" the minimum level below which the river would be a scrape?
The pdf wrote: "DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PADDLE OVER BRECON WEIR OR DESCEND VIA THE FISH PASSES. THIS IS ILLEGAL."
Is it really illegal? Exactly what law is being broken please?

I have a mate who was fined in a magistrate court 20 years ago for going over Brecon Weir.
Will find out precise details and get back to the forum.

This happened 25 years ago, before WCA changed their position on access.
GCSE kayak group, LEA Outdoor Centre, 5 day course, last day.
The prosecution was brought by the EA , on evidence from the water bailiff. Took place in a magistrate court.
My mate was charged with WILLFULLY DISTURBING SPAWNING SALMON BEDS. He was found guilty and fined £220, with a 12 month conditional discharge.
The bailiff said the river level was 0.38, back then you were not allowed to paddle below 0.4. The bailiff proved how low it was with photos, blatantly taken in the Summer!!!!
The bailiff said they ran the fish pass, even though it was blocked by huge trees!!!
No salmon were seen!
WCA sent a representative who said nothing. The employer's solicitor was useless!
My mate thought everyone in the court except him was in the fishing syndicate!
Notice he was not done for boating, or navigating!
Hope people find this interesting and also hope it could not happen today.
