If there's been heavy ran, some of the sluice gates in Cambridge produce waves, although conditions have to be just right for them to be surfable. I'm Cambridge based, and I usually go to Lee Valley. I know Cambridge Canoe Club can control the Mill Pond sluice gate flow to make it playable - maybe get in touch with them?
