Hi , I'm new to this and as the Chelmer is on my doorstep I thought id give it a go , can you just turn up and get in the water or will I need a permit ? Any help greatly received.

That depends upon where you intend launching, the paddle points website will explain the locations but Papermill Lock is a good starting place, you need a licence, that's available from the office for the day or for the year.

Like you I'm new and currently using our local pool when possible, still deciding on what kayak I need. Have you any paddling experience?
