South West EA / level chart

Post by Mark Allen » Thu Jan 03, 2013 9:39 pm

I have worked this out this winter:

River Dart

About 0.67 on: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... ionId=3212 is Lapping the slab at new bridge

About 1.25 is 3rd Arch

About 0.47 is the lowest you want to run the Upper Dart - about 6 inches below the slab at Newbridge.

Webcam: http://www.kayaksandpaddles.co.uk/dartcam.htm

River Erme

About 0.57 on: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... ionId=3208 is paddleable from Slot and Drop down through gorge

About 0.75 you can get on at Harford Bridge (not same as Tavy)

0.80-0.90 is most peoples primo levels

Above 1.0m things get full on

River Tavy - Middle section

About 0.50 is minimum level for Hill Bridge to Harford Bridge (Not same as Erme) section on : http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... ionId=3185

but 0.55 - 0.80 is prime flows

Above 1.0m things get silly because of dangerous trees

Webcam: http://www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/l ... Tavistock/

River Tavy - Lower

About 0.45 on : http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... ionId=3185 is minimium level from Tavistock to Forestry Car Park at Denham Bridge

0.60-0.90 is prime

1.0m plus high

WATCH FOR WIERS ON THIS SECTION

River Walkham - Lower

0.42 on: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... ionId=3200 is minimum for this section from Horrabridge to Forestry Carpark on Lower Tavy

Will work out more readings soon

River East Lyn on Exmoor

About 1.48 on: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... ionId=3099 is minimum for Watersmeet to the Sea section

and 1.55 minimum for getting on on Brendon section

1.70 things get spicy in lower gorge
1.80+ Rest of river is high (ish)

1.42 Lower Gorge Walk in and out mimimum

Webcams: http://www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/l ... /East-Lyn/ and :
http://www.access-technology.net/watersmeet/

River East Okement

0.55 on this gauge:
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... ionId=3116 is about the lowest you want to run the river
The gauge up stream is useful for seeing when its rising but needs to be on 0.67 (0.67 is same as 0.55 on lover gauge) as minimum: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ho ... ionId=3101

ALL MINIMUMS ARE REALISTIC MINIMUMS NOT MACHO LOCALS OPINIONS!!! - I help this helps

The information on flows is really helpful, thanks.

Looks a bit low at the moment but was considering taking a group on the lower tavy this weekend. Is anyone aware of any new hazards. Thanks
