Re: Tree hazard on the Erme, Viaduct section

Hopefully it will be removed as they are working there all week - which also means the access paths from below the viaduct may not be useable at times (it is possible to go further up the road & walk down the path directly to the picnic site - not that it's any easier)

2 trees on Erme just above viaduct

Post by flashollie » Mon Apr 30, 2012 9:37 am

Sunday 29.4.12

Two large trees about 30 metres apart are blocking the whole river just above the viaduct.
Definite portage. Easy eddy river right before should be no problems. Might be an issue for swimmer especially in high water.

Yea, we saw these yesterday morning too.

Probably worth a quick scout on the way up to the get in. But as you say, easily avoidable.

This evening, a river wide tree was trapped in the second dog leg drop in the Erme gorge. The tree was just below the surface at the apex of the move in the drop, when the river level was 0.78 on the gauge.

Now the council have replaced the curb and pavement below the viaduct please be respectful of locals and visitors, especially when parking. Please try to avoid blocking the pavement with kit/boats and cars etc, also avoid parking directly opposite the driveway as this causes the gentleman who lives there a lot of trouble getting in and out of his driveway. Currently the council are very supportive of paddling on the Erme, but they will quickly change their tune if we cause them a headache.
Cheers.

Hi all

Was wondering if anyone had paddled this lately? Planning on going this weekend (17/01/15), haven't paddled it in a while.

Any news on trees, levels, access etc

Cheers

Rusty

New tree hazard on the Erme- just above the double drop by the old swimming pool.

Latest tree still there, plus several others reported before the slot drop.

The fish steps on the weir above viaduct have a tree wedged down the side, but branches are also sticking out midflow which will not be obvious at high water, but could still snag a boat...
