Accomodation for River Dart - paddler friendly B&B

Post by lowertownfarmB&B »

Lowertown Farm Bed & Breakfast is set in a peaceful rural hamlet within the Dart valley, three miles away from the picturesque village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Surrounded by ninety three acres of farmland with open moorland above and below the farm.

Luke and Hannah, the second generation to live at the 500 year old farmhouse, welcome you with a warm log fire (perfect for those cold winter nights), comfy sofas and full English Breakfasts.

Whether it’s kayaking, climbing the granite tors, riding a horse across the moors or simply exploring the beauty of Dartmoor, Hannah and Luke, with their keen interest in the outdoors, are able to provide you with an enjoyable stay. Luke is an experienced kayaker and climber and can give you advice on local rivers and crags.

Our visitor book is full of positive comments from previous guests, many of whom come back time and time again. For your evening meals there are a number of good quality pubs in the area, one of which is just a short walk though the fields. We can also provide you with a packed lunch with prior notice.

We can cater for groups, families, couples or singles but we try to limit ourselves to a maximum of six guests at any time, ensuring that you have an enjoyable, peaceful stay. We have three guest bedrooms, all at reasonable prices, a double room, a twin room and a family room with a bunk bed. Bedrooms are furnished with high quality mattresses, John Lewis bed linen and fluffy bath and hand towels. All bedrooms feature photography from local photographer Richard Fox. A large tea and coffee station on the spacious landing will cater for your needs with a quick-cup providing hot water at the touch of a button.

The bedrooms are upstairs and share a large bathroom (bath with shower above) .As the three guest rooms share a bathroom not only does it save water, but it also means that we can keep a close eye on it – keeping it clean, hygienic and topped up with good quality eco-friendly toiletries, all made in the UK.

Free Wi-Fi throughout the farmhouse with a fairly good connection despite the thick Dartmoor granite walls. We are one of a few selected British farms as part of Country Living Magazine's Keep Britain Farming campaign and been listed in Countryfile Magazine’s “Top Ten Farmstays in the UK”.

Enjoy your relaxing evenings reading our local magazines and sociable morning breakfasts in the comfort of our guest sitting room, with its beautiful granite fireplace and log burner which provides heat to the bedrooms above, beautiful oak dining table and comfy sofas. Browse through the books, magazines and Ordnance Survey maps, take them with you during your stay if you wish, just remember to put them back for our next guests. We also have plenty of leaflets about local attractions and events.

We offer a full English breakfast between 8am and 9.30am, unless previously arranged when booking. We use fresh local produce where possible and our chickens and ducks in the garden will provide your tasty fresh eggs in the morning! We can also cater for your dietary needs too just let us know before arrival. Children are welcome to feed our free range chickens, who are very friendly, their daily handful of their favourite treat- mixed corn.

We will also dry your equipment overnight ensuring it will be dry for the following day’s paddling. As Luke is a keen paddler there are also a number of paddling magazines, maps and guidebooks available to read in our guest sitting room.

There are a range of rivers and grades locally to enjoy on your Kayaking break, all within a short drive including the Exe, Lyn, Teign, Taw, Avon, Tamar, Tavy, Plym, Walkham, Barle and Erme.
