River Derwent - ambergate wire works weir

Post by rogersavery » Sun Sep 23, 2012 11:22 am

Has anyone ever run this?

We sat at the top yesterday looking down all the channels and couldn't decide is the wave at the bottom was caused by an obstruction or not

We ended up carry around (the really friendly security guard helped us out, unlocked the gate and showed us the easiest way round)

These photos would suggest it's a whole manner of headaches! Looks like a vertical drop on to a concrete base, with a concrete lip to catch you, then a rubble slide!

Shame really.

Thanks for the photos Andy

The channel on the right (as you look at the pictures), obscured by trees is around 45 degres but the concrete beam still appears to carry on along the bottom

Ah interesting. Looks like it might then, perhaps with a bit of bum thrutching to get over the concrete beam. Would make a trip from Darley Bridge or Matlock to Belper a go-er.

(this bit of the Derwent is my current interest. Have suitably covered the Darley Abbey to Church Wilne Section, and want to explore the next stretch up next :) )
