Re: RIVER RIBBLE (Helwith Bridge to Settle)
I'm after a volunteer to write a guide for the Ribble for the new edition of English White Water - any takers?
Done any NE/NW rivers not on the site? PM me!

Also a put in at the bridge at Horton In Ribblesdale. Straight forward g2/3 (more water the better) for the 1st 3/4 mile before it settles down then the final run at g2 to the Hellwith bridge pub. No known access problems.

There's a huge tree down under the entire left hand arch of the final bridge at the Twin Bridges rapid. The right hand arch is clear, but at high flows neither a paddler or swimmer would get under or over the tree. Can be seen from upstream if you inspect the lead out from the main event.

Ran this twice on Saturday at about 1.1 on the gauge. No strainers in sight and the tree on the second bridge of the 'Twin Bridges' rapid has long gone. Mandatory portages around Stainforth Force and the two weirs, but portages were easy enough. One of the best runs in the North at this level.
No other boaters in sight!
