Hi All,

For our first talk of the 2016 Autumn Series we have something very special for you – Tim Jarvis. Tim is a polar explorer extraordinaire who will be here at Allenburys to tell the tale of recreating Shackleton's 1916 Antarctica expedition – this really is not to be missed. Plus all proceeds to go to Helping Rhinos https://www.helpingrhinos.org/

In March 2013 Tim Jarvis returned from Antarctica where he led a team of six men to successfully retrace the legendary polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1916 southern journey of survival. Using the same rudimentary equipment, period clothing and technology as Shackleton, the team sailed a replica James Caird lifeboat, the Alexandra Shackleton, 1500 kilometres across the Southern Ocean from Elephant Island to South Georgia, before traversing its mountainous interior. This is the first time that anybody has been able to recreate authentically Shackleton’s “double”, regarded by many as the greatest survival journey of all time.

100 years on from Shackleton’s extraordinary achievement, come and hear Tim talk about his own expedition, what inspired and motivated him to undertake it, the challenges faced and the lessons learned.

Tim Jarvis AM (Member of the Order of Australia) is an adventurer, author, film maker and public speaker with Masters degrees in environmental science and environmental law. He is committed to finding pragmatic solutions to issues related to climate change and biodiversity loss.
