This is a flatwater fundraising paddle for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, and is organised by RLSCC. Based in Leamington's we are a welcoming and thriving canoe and kayak club with sections for polo, kayaking, racing and canoeing and a good programme of trips both on white and flat water as well as its own base right on the River Leam.
The Doggy Paddle covers 18 miles and is on relaxed flatwater from Leamington Spa to Stratford-upon-Avon on the River Leam and Avon. The trip takes you from Royal Leamington Spa, through the spectacular grounds of Warwick Castle and Charlecote Park, ending in historic Stratford-upon-Avon. This year the National Trust are removing the deer gates at Charlcote Park.
We have a website with details about the put in, route notes and shuttle (http://www.doggpaddle.org.uk). We also have a facebook page for the event (http://www.facebook.com/groups/340737819299945).
There's several threads on Song Of The Paddle which give you an idea of what a lovely stretch of water it is.
There's only one weir you have to portage - at Warwick Castle - at each and every weir there will be help from club members especially at Warwick where there we have to get through before the Castle prime the trebuchet. There are portages around the weirs and a fallen tree (1 mile down from Barford)
There is a limited shuttle available to/from Stratford, organised from the Leamington Spa end. Ideally sort out your own shuttle. Last shuttle leaves at 8-45am from Leamington Spa, as it takes long time to drive to Stratford and back.
