Tue 19th May - Nepal Earthquake Fundraiser - Arun Gorges

Post by Mark Coleman » Thu Apr 30, 2015 10:18 pm

Hi All,

In response to the disaster in Nepal we are doing an 'Allenburys Adventure Series Special' fundraiser.

Please do your best to attend, and if you can't attend please give what you can to one of our causes – see below.

This disaster feels so very very real to me as just 2 short weeks before I was in an adventurer's bar in Kathmandu with my friends and the Nepalese team who made the trip happen. We were watching the film of the trip, celebrating and planning our next adventure. Now in the area (Baireni) that they are from many people are suffering and have lost everything. In the short term we can send them money for the basics of life – food, water, shelter and medicines. In the long term we can go to Nepal for adventures, spend our money there and help them to rebuild.
Allenburys Adventure Series- Special:-

Tuesday 19th May 2015 – 8pm - ALL WARMLY WELCOME

Hi All,

A reminder that our 'Help Nepal' fundraiser is this Tuesday (19th May – 8pm) – All welcome.

I have a great story to tell and Steve DeHaro has been busy pulling together a video of our trip.

An entrance fee of £5 is suggested – give what you can – less or more ALL of your donation on the night will go to Ram Bhandari (White Water Adventures Nepal) who has set up a fund to help them to help their communities. They live in some of the worst hit remote villages that the big aid agencies are failing or having trouble reaching.

Plus a BIG THANK YOU to those that have sent me money and/or have sent money direct to Ram – this is what it's gone towards so far – received this update from Ram this morning.

Donation money received for the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund so far has been spent on the following:-

Rice ................................9 Tonnes
Cooking Oil......................400 litres
Salt...............................400 kilos
Shelter or Tarpoline (Tarps)..1002 metres

We have managed to distribute supplies and support to 159 families in Dhading District, VCD Baireni (Ram’s village) and surrounding in these areas. We also know around five are people dead in this area and lots of families homes are gone down to the ground. The devastating thing about this is that they store food, about years' worth of food, in their houses.

We also managed to create four-class room for Shree Kala Janya Primacy Primary School above Ram’s village. Ram’s brothers trekked up there and distributed 240 metres of tarps to construct makeshift classrooms.

In the Kavre District, VCD, Mache around 45 families have been supplied with shelters, in the form of tarps. No one in that area is recorded dead but the entire village has been lost with all houses down to the ground.

The Sindupalchok district, VCD Bhotenamlong 40 families have been supplied with rice. 36 people are dead here and 90 percent of the houses, the health post and all the schools are destroyed. Through our friend Radha Lama we were able to make contact with the village and they really appreciated the much-needed rice that was distributed in the community.

The very hard hit Sindupalchok district, was again provided with support, this time in the VCD Banskherka. Over 100 hundred families were supplied with rice and cooking oil. There are people 148 people dead, 800 houses and all the school and health post destroyed. This community basically doesn’t have anywhere to go for school or health check ups now. The people in this village responded really well to the support plus they can’t thank you, every one of you, enough for your donations.

Again in Sindupalchok district, VCD Lekharkha 40 bags of rice were distributed. The village really appreciated the support. 40 families were reached with these supplies.

Ram’s two brothers and two Whitewater Adventures Nepal staff are going today to distribute 2 tonnes rice and tarps to Nuwakot District, VDC Khagabhangam. This will reach around 70 -90 families.

From now on whatever money we raise will go toward the school above Ram’s village to rebuild it. The school is in the process of putting together a plan and coming up with cost for the building.

Ram’s family, Mum and Dad also need help to repair their house because after the second earthquake it is damaged more. We are planning to get a group of people who would like to come and help rebuild the school and repair their home. The date for this work will be November 14th – 23rd. Builders, plumbers, electricians, engineers and any one that can make the time to come and contribute to this would be greatly appreciated. Any time after this date could work as well. Please contact us if you would like to come along and do this volunteer work and after that if people want do trekking or rafting we can organise that too.

Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to all our family and friends and every individual who has donate their money, time and resources to support the fund. Especially, The Outdoor Education Group, Nillumbik Lions Club and Briar Hill Primary School who have helped us with facilitating fundraising events that have raised large sums of money.
