Wye Weekender - Sat May 11th - Sun May 12th 2024

Post by GregS »

A few weeks ago, a group of us gathered at Northampton Active for the first of what we anticipate becoming an ongoing series of trade-run events to "connect with fellow paddlers and create lasting memories" - a social gathering where enthusiasts could share their passion

We're about to run the second event in this series, with an opportunity to "discover hidden gems along the picturesque River Wye" - all from a familiar base at Racquety Farm

This is about much more than workshops, but Andrew Oughton and I will be running trad boat clinics… and Lina Patel will be doing back to back sessions on "Canoe Campcraft and Woodland Skills for Tripping and Journeying by Open Canoe"…

…and alongside all of this, James Dennis will be looking at ways to repair, restore, reuse, and keep your canoe in good shape, and at outfitting anything for anything from journeying to whitewater, and Steve Butterfield will be offering his OC1 thing!

This is a trade-run event, but registration is free to owners of Silverbirch Canoes / Hou Canoes and ALL others are welcome - all at Hay-on-Wye over the weekend of 11th and 12th May 2024

Silverbirch Canoes wrote:We have some tough news to share. Due to lower-than-expected sign-ups, we've had to make the difficult decision to cancel this weekend's Wye Weekender. This is a huge disappointment for us, as we were incredibly excited to connect with you all on the water.
But here's the thing... We want to talk about it!
We poured our hearts and souls into creating a free event with top-notch coaching, stunning scenery, and a chance to build a thriving canoe community. We're genuinely curious - what are the biggest barriers preventing people from getting involved in paddlesports events?
Let's spark a conversation! Drop a comment below and tell us:
What makes you want to attend a paddlesport event like this?
How can we, as a brand, better connect with paddlers and build a supportive community?
We know there's a passionate community of paddlers out there, and we're determined to find ways to support you. But when we offer so much and get so little uptake, we’ve clearly missed the mark, so let's find a path forward together.
