Bala 1981
Re: Bala 1981
Excellent.
whats that bridge at 2.43 in the first one? Not 'Miss Davies', it looks too narrow.

I think it was called the Irish Bridge on the upper section above the chipper. It has since been replaced thankfully, it had been built with syphons underneath it. I once saw someone get sucked down one, fortunately there was someone close by to grab them and pull them back out before they went too far. His legs still got quite battered, and he was quite shocked afterwards.

Not me Dave! I can see the person you mean, but 1981 was a year before I started paddling.davebrads wrote:Chris Bolton, a regular on these forums, can be seen helping on start

Superb..... really enjoyed watching that.
Really took me back to the mud, the midges and the excitement of spending a week watching the racing and judging the slalom...

Out of the boredom of watching the '81 worlds was born the Cardboard championships. John Watson and Pete Montgomery getting bored with the same boats and same runs speculated that the competitors should build their boats on arrival! And so the International world cardboard canoeing championships arrived at the the Mike Jones Rally.

Likewise ... remember the rain, but had forgotten about the mud.hogboy wrote:Superb..... really enjoyed watching that.

Good to see "Big boy" spraydecks again ...probably their last year? (PFD with no foam on the body for those to young...)
Also glad to see the Mighty T was like I remember it, a mighty boatbreaker. Amazing how much above "Scaffold" has changed. Got to admit that diagonal humped concrete and corrugated tunnel/bridge on the bend above chipper was HORRIBLE, glad to see that's long gone.
