K1 Club South Wales

Post by Midnight999 » Sat Nov 19, 2016 5:13 pm

Hi All,
Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but I am trying to find a club that is involved in K1 kayaking in South Wales, the nearer to Ebbw Vale the better. Im not an experienced kayaker and havent even been in one for probably 10 years but Im interested in the fitness, training and competition side of things. Ive been a dinghy sailor for quite a few years so being in the water through the winter isnt a big problem. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Lee

Hi Lee,
I have recently joined Cardiff Bay Kayakers who meet Sat mornings and Wednesday evenings at CIWW.
They paddle skis, K1s and K2s on the adjacent River Ely. They also race ski and Marathon.
They have a Facebook page if you would like to make contact.

I do not of any other club close to Ebbw Vale but I regularly paddle on The Brecon Canal which is ideal for fitness training in a K1.

Hi James,
Thats great news, I will take a look at their page. I was thinking the canal would be perfect and theres also Bryn Bach park close by as well as Llandegfedd resevoir. Do you paddle a K1?

Hi Lee, we have a club in Abergavenny, with a lot of members from Ebbw Vale and Tredegar.
We meet summer evenings outside, canal, Keeper's Pond etc. In the winter pool session in King Henry, Abergavenny. Plus river trips as often as we can.
We don't k1 at the moment but we are only just into our 3rd year.
More than welcome to check us out.
Jason

Hi Lee
Yes I do paddle a K1 especially on the Canal, but not very quickly.
