We are running a British Canoeing 3-Star Open Canoe Training and Assessment at Longridge, Marlow, on the 14th - 15th of October.
This personal competence training and assessment award is for those who consider themselves as an intermediate open canoe paddler. Upon completion paddlers should be able to demonstrate personal competence in paddling open water in wind conditions of beaufort force 3 and on grade 1 moving water as part of a led group. Our nationally qualified instructors will promote high quality skill development with an emphasis on discipline specific variations and correct safe practice.
Who is it for? This course is suitable for adults and those aged 14 and over. Younger enthusiasts may wish to take a look at our British Canoeing PaddlePower courses that may be more suitable.
Are there any pre-requisites?
Yes, you must be able to confidently swim in an open water and river environment whilst wearing normal paddling clothes.
You must be able to consistently perform at a 2 star standard in an open canoe.Provide evidence of at least three different open canoe journeys, of about three hours duration (10Km) each; at least one of these needs to be in an open water environment, and one on a river trip. Although not essential, we highly recommend that you hold a British Canoeing 2 Star Award.

What should I bring?
We encourage you to bring your own canoe, paddle, buoyancy aid and safety equipment, although this can all be provided. We recommend appropriate paddling clothing suitable for a range of environmental conditions.
Do I get a certificate?
3 Star certificates are issued to successful candidates by British Canoeing following a recommendation from the course provider and subject to the following certification fees.
- £12 for British Canoeing members
- £25 for non-members
