Home made Carbon outfitting for fluid solo?

Post by Green.media » Tue Mar 06, 2012 6:19 pm

Hi all
Decided today that i would finally convert my fluid solo L to C1 and im debating making a custom carbon fiber saddle that mounts to the currant seat mount's/brackets.
Has anyone tried this in the past and is there any advice? Im looking to make the saddle so it is adjustable as im finding it hard to gauge were the saddle needs to be and im still growing,
I can throw some 3D models together if people are struggling to imagine this.
Cheers

Simmilar things have been done before, though not to mesh up with existing outfitting (though the fluid outfitting is perfect for it).

My reservations would be that all-carbon constructions are:
  • much more likely to shatter into shards if they fail
  • horrifically expensive
I'd certainly want to use Carbon & Kevlar or Carbon-Kevlar, but can't help thinking that E-glass & Diolen would be much more economical for a fraction of the price and not a massive increase in weight or loss of physical properties.

i added it up and carbon is a simlar cost to buying a big enough block of foam to do the boat with plus this is my old creek boat that was cracked under the seat and now has a crack just behind the seat, so the more sturtural rigidity i can give the boat without stressing the hull the better, just got board at work so iver thrown together a model with some self adheasive foam board (work in a photography lab) so may look into making a mould up in the near future

Sorry to bring back an old post but don't suppose you still have the old outfitting do you? We need some for a club boat.
